Altar Project

Day of the Dead

Dea de los Muertos

Home altars are in preparation for the spirits’ arrival that include photos of the deceased, decorating the area with marigolds (the flower of the dead), however these are out of season now, therefore choose another flower or plant.  Also included are this person’s or animal’s     favourite dishes (unopened canned food), or recipes.  Leave pumpkins, gourds, seeds, artificial candles, no incense, toys, enticements, stories either recorded or written, photos, objects of personal use.  A path of flowers or petals directed the soul to their home altar.  The altar may be miniature or maximum width up to 16”.  Look up in Google “how to make Mexican Altars”, however as artists you will have your own ideas.  Altars may be created for an animal, person or something that was lost or found.  In my next E-mail I will have more information on Alison Barclay’s work, our feature artist.

Please deliver the Altars to 62 Janet Street the week of November 20th, 2023.  Call Linda Hankin Maracle at 905-382-6513
